From October 10 to 16, 2016 the Claro Open Pan American Surfing Games 2016 were held at Punta Roquitas in Miraflores / Lima. More than 300 surfers from Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, Puerto Rico, Uruguay and Venezuela followed the invitation of the Pan American Surfing Association (PASA) and participated in the event.
The athletes competed in the 7 different disciplines: Open Surfing, Longboard, SUP Surfing, Bodyboard, Dropknee, SUP Race and Paddleboard Race.
Just like last year the Peruvian surf team was able to prevail over its competitors. A total of 19 medals (9 gold, 3 silver and 7 bronze) gave the Peruvian national team once again the Pan American Surfing Champion title. The team from Chile finished second before third-placed Ecuador.
The event was seen as a great opportunity for the heads of the National Surfing Federations of the Americas to come together and to decide on the qualifying process for the Lima 2019 Pan American Games, the biggest sports event of the Americas.
