El Mundo según Mafalda (The World according to Mafalda), a graphic exhibition of the famous Argentine comic strip written and drawn by cartoonist Joaquín Salvador Lavado Saco, better known by his pen name Quino, is finally coming to Lima this March.

For those who don’t know Mafalda: The comic features Mafalda, a precocious 6-year-old girl with a restless mind, who reflects the Argentinian middle class and progressive youth and who is deeply concerned about humanity and world peace. She hates soup and has serious attitude problems but in an innocent manner and often leaves her parents at loss by asking about mature or complex topics.

The comic strips ran from 1964 to 1973 and was very popular in Latin America, Europe, and Asia, leading to translations into more than 30 languages, two animated cartoon series and compilation books. Still popular today Mafalda is probably the best representation of Latin American counterculture of the 1960s and 70s.

The exhibition pays homage to Mafalda, her parents, brother and other characters with engaging and creative installations. The exhibition, which is suited for young and old, is divided into 13 areas introducing visitors to Mafalda, her story and her surroundings and giving visitors the opportunity to reconnect to Mafalda’s world and mind.

A brilliant retrospective on one of Latin America’s most beloved cartoon characters and a must see.
