The Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (UPCH) - Cayetano Heredia University is a private, non-profit higher education institution in Lima and considered one of the top 2 medical schools in Peru.
Founded in 1961 with the aim of offering a top-notch education in the medical field and contributing to research in health and life sciences in the country and the world, the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (UPCH), which is named in honor of Cayetano Heredia, one of the eminent Peruvian physicians of the 19th century, is currently the major publisher of scientific articles in the country and its students and professors have received countless awards and recognition
Academically the UPCH is next to the Faculty of Medicine "San Fernando" of the National University of San Marcos considered the most important and prestigious medical university in the country. According to the QS Latin America University Rankings 2019 the Cayetano Heredia University is placed on position 70 in the region making it the second-best university in the country.

Officially accredited and recognized by the Peruvian Ministry of Education and with close affiliations with the best universities and institutes around the globe, UPCH offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized undergraduate and postgraduate degrees such bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees and doctorate degrees mainly in the areas of Medicine, Health and Science.

Recognized as a worldwide reference in tropical medicine thanks to its contributions in research of tropical and communicable diseases, as well as due to the Gorgas Courses, which are held on a yearly basis, and gather physicians from all over the world striving to enhance their knowledge in this medical fields.
- Altitude Research Institute
Its main function is to research the influence of altitude on both human and animal populations living or visiting such areas. The institute performs both teaching and training activities in the areas of its competence.
- Institute of Gerontology
It promotes research in geriatrics and gerontology, developing innovative and representative multiciplinary scientific lines in the study of our national reality. Moreover, it performs activities related to teaching, services, social projection training and evaluation.

The university has an extreme selective admission policy based on entrance examinations.

UPCH does not offer financial aids for international students.
The tuition depends on career and selected courses. So, student fees vary heavily and can be anything between S/ 6,500 and more than S/ 30,000 (US$ 2,000 and US$ 10,000) annually. Additionally, costs for registration, materials, books and photocopies have to be covered

Today more than 10,000 students are enrolled at the Cayetano Heredia University from which about 180 are international students. Total faculty staff is more or less 1,000.
