On Monday, March 6, 2017 the Supreme Decree 006-2017-RE was published in the official Peruvian gazette El Peruano which allows some Indian citizens to travel visa free to Peru for touristic and recreational as well as business related purposes.

Not having to apply for a tourist or business visa at a Peruvian embassy or consulate abroad will only apply to Indian nationals that hold a permanent residency or a visa with a validity of at least 6 months in the US, Canada, any country belonging to the Schengen area, UK or Australia.

These Indian citizens only can enter Peru visa free for a stay up to 180 days, either for one continuous visit or for several shorter visits together not exceeding the half year, within a 12 months’ period.

India is the second Asian nation that benefits from this regulation. Already since September 2016 Chinese citizens with a permanent resident status or a visa for at least 6 months in the US, Canada, UK, Australia or any Schengen state, can enter Peru visa free for touristic and business related purposes.

With this step Peru continues to promote foreign tourism, trade and investment as well as further tightening the ties with India.

India, on the other hand, as well announced to liberalize its tourist and business visa requirements for Peruvian nationals. Peruvian visa applicants that fulfil the Indian visa requirements are now granted a tourist visa valid for 5 years allowing them to stay in India for up to 90 days per visit.
