Actually, it’s hard to imagine with having such deep trade relations; but according to Peruvian authorities yesterday the first direct cargo flight ever from Peru to China landed safely on the Shanghai Pudong International Airport. On its 18.000 km journey from Lima’s Jorge Chavez Airport in Callao to China the Boeing 777 registered with China Eastern Airlines was laden with tons of delicious Peruvian fruits and veggies.

In the past agricultural products from South America to Asia have been shipped mainly via the United States. So, the first direct cargo flight is a milestone in deepening the already close commercial connections between Peru and China even further.

On the other hand, direct cargo flights from China to Peru already started to pick up three years ago. According to China Eastern Air Logistics, a sub company of China Eastern Airlines, freight flights from the Asian country to Peru increased from just two in 2013 to currently 70 in 2016; shipped cargo volume grew from 200 t to over 6500t.
