After successfully completing its 3 months maiden voyage last year, the Peruvian training ship “Unión” set sails again leaving the naval base of Callao for ports in 11 countries in the Americas and Europe.

Built by the Industrial Services of the Peruvian Navy (SIMA) at the naval shipyard in Callao, the BAP Unión is the largest sail training ship in Latin America and the second largest in the world. The four-masted, full-rigged barque is the pride and joy of Peruvians on the world oceans.

The voyage mainly serves as a training for the 244 crew members, from which 83 are cadets of the Peruvian Naval School and 4 of the Peruvian Army, the Peruvian Airforce and the Peruvian Police. Additionally, 4 officers from Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico and Canada were invited to join.

The Unión will anchor at the ports of Balboa and Colon (Panama), Jacksonville, Norfolk and Boston (USA), Charlottetown (Canada), London (England), Hamburg (Germany), Amsterdam (Holland), Le Havre (France), La Coruña, Cadiz and Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Spain), Lisbon (Portugal), Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic), Colon and Balboa (Panama), and Guayaquil (Ecuador).

Next to training purposes the Unión is as well a sailing ambassador for Peru. Therefore, the general public in all ports along the trip is invited to visit the Peruvian sail training ship and learn more not only about the impressive ship, but also about Peru, its beautiful landscapes and nature, its culture and traditions.

The BAP Unión will be back in Peru after a 6 months journey on November 7, 2017.
