Happy Valentine’s Day! Like in numerous countries around the globe, the 14th of February is the day of love, passion and commitment in Peru as well.

But on the so called Día del Amor y la Amistad (Day of Love and Friendship) not only couples show their love by exchanging cards, flowers, chocolates, cute little teddy bears or other expressions of their affection, but also friends in one way or the other appreciate their non-romantic love.

Over the past years, Valentine’s Day in Peru developed into a really important affair for lovers and friends. Today about 80% of Peruvian couples celebrate their love and exchange gifts worth S/ 212; that’s about US$ 65 and more or less 20% of an average monthly income in Peru.

According to a study from Tiendeo Peru, an online platform that groups together digitalized catalogues and offers online (web to store), Peruvian women spend S/ 171 (US$ 52) and spoil their loved one with a romantic dinner (32%) or clothes and accessories (15%). Men however spend with S/ 311 (US$ 95) almost double the amount on a romantic dinner (36%), travel (18%) and flowers (19%).

With all the expectations and promoted obligations, please don't forget that often the small things, the ones coming from the heart are worth much more than anything else. With this in mind have a Happy Vanetine's Day!
