Last weekend the elite of the travel industry gathered for the World Travel Awards (WTA) Grand Final Gala Ceremony 2018 at the historic Pátio da Galé in Lisbon, Portugal to find out which of the world’s leading hotels, destinations, airlines, travel providers and brands had been awarded this year’s renowned world title.
Also known as “the Oscar of the Travel Industry”, the World Travel Awards acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence in the tourism industry.
And this year Peru could bring home three of the prestigious World Travel Awards trophies.
For the 7th consecutive year Peru was recognized as “World's Leading Culinary Destination 2018” thanks to an enormous biodiversity, an abundance of fresh produce, a rich culinary past, creative chefs and countless excellent restaurants (3 of them among the World’s Best 50 Restaurants and 9 among the Latin America’s Best 50 Restaurants).
Additionally, Peru won the title “World's Leading Cultural Destination 2018” due to its rich cultural heritage, impressive archeological sites, countless museums and galleries.
And last but not least Machu Picchu, the Inca citadel near Cusco high in the Andean mountains and one of the New 7 Wonders of the World, was crowned “World's Leading Tourist Attraction 2018”.
