By offering a normal ticket and an afternoon ticket the Peruvian Ministry of Culture already for the past year slowly introduced a new system to enter Machu Picchu with the aim of better coping with an increasing number of visitors and improving the conservation and preservation efforts of the Inca citadel.

Now, the ticketing system is further defined. As Cusco’s regional Culture Directorate announced on the Machu Picchu ticket sales website, starting on July 1, 2017 Machu Picchu visitors have to enter Peru’s most popular tourist attraction in 2 shifts.

The morning shift will be from 06.00 am to 12.00 pm and the afternoon shift from 12.00 pm to 05.30 pm.

Reservation and sale of entrance tickets for Machu Picchu’s new shifts start on June 1, 2017.

According to the announcement “this measure is adopted with the aim of ensuring a better flow of tourism, conservation and preservation of the citadel in accordance with the UNESCO-endorsed Master Plan of the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu”.

The access to Machu Picchu mountain (07.00 am to 08.00 am and 09.00 am to 10.00 am) and Huayna Picchu (07.00 am to 08.00 am and 10.00 am to 11.00 am) remain the same.
