Yesterday, Euromonitor International, an independent market research company operating worldwide, released its annual Top City Destinations Ranking covering 100 of the world’s leading cities in terms of international tourist arrivals – and the Peruvian capital Lima is among them.
According to the study, international arrivals worldwide increased 5.5% in 2015, showing the economic importance of tourism to the world’s largest cities. While Hong Kong is on top of the City Destinations Ranking for the seventh consecutive year, followed by Bangkok and London, the Peruvian capital Lima reached with nearly 2,5 million international arrivals position 76.
In its regional group “Latin America” Lima is positioned 3rd after Cancun, Mexico (world ranking 50) and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic (world ranking 58) and before Mexico City, Mexico (world ranking 78) and Buenos Aires, Argentina (world ranking 83).
With a 9% growth rate of international arrivals in 2015, Lima was highlighted in the report as a country with a strong performance. Additionally to economic and infrastructural improvements over the past years, Peru is increasingly recognized as a safe and attractive travel destination for a wide range of travelers from which he Peruvian capital could benefit.
