A mechanical failure caused a Lima Metro train to get stranded at the Atocongo bridge and about 1,000 passengers were stuck in the cabin for over an hour.

The train was traveling fully occupied at 8:15 a.m. when according to some passengers it suddenly stopped right at the border between the districts of Surco and San Juan de Miraflores. The cause of the failure was never officially confirmed by the operator of the Lima Metro. The official spokesman Mr. Rodrigo Fernández (public relations manager) only said that the passengers were in good condition and ventilation was not a problem.

"What will be done is a docking maneuver through another train to tow the stranded train to the nearest station and allow the passengers to get off" - Fernandez said.

The Lima Metro service was restored about an hour later.
