With stones, sticks, burning objects and even bullets a group of subjects foiled the temporary closure for health reasons of the Fruit Market No. 2 in La Victoria last night (Mercado de Frutas N°2). Five people were injured and at least one received a bullet and was hospitalized after the events.

The clashes began at about 6 pm when a contingent of municipal policemen reached the district supply center to execute the preventive measure ordered by the municipality for reported health issues in the market. However the market traders responded with violence.

As shown by the images that were broadcasted by "América Noticias" the officials were attacked with petrol bombs and all kinds of objects. There was one case of shooting reported, but the circumstances were not clear. During the violence one municipal policeman fell on the ground and was kicked severely by several individuals who opposed the temporary closure.

Finally additional police forces arrived at the area and managed to control the situation. However, the temporary shutdown was not executed and this morning the market began business as usual

In interviews with the press, the market traders denied the presence of rodents and said they have presented legal documentation to suspend the closure.
