After the devastating fire over a month ago most shops are back in business within this week

The with tourists, high-end customers and locals popular multilevel shopping, entertainment and food megacomplex Larcomar in Miraflores reopens after a devastating fire on November 16th ceased operation completely.

After the successful inspection and the issuance of a new operating license by the Defensa Civil, Peru's National Civil Defense Institute which oversees the safety and security of buildings and installations in the country, about 90% of shops in Larcomar will be allowed to reopen within the next days starting gradually this coming Monday.

While shop owners and neighboring businesses lost a big part of their Christmas business due to the complete temporary closure of the shopping mall after the fire that left 4 dead, they hope now to being able to recover some of their losses.

The Larcomar mall is built into the cliffs of Miraflores overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It extends over 45,000 square meters and accommodates over 100 businesses. Popular with young and old, foreigners and locals the shopping mall usually welcomes over half a million visitors per month.

According to a statement issued by the municipality of Miraflores the Larcomar shopping mall will not be reopened until all fire prevention measures are completed and all observations made during an inspection from Defensa Civil are solved to the satisfaction of authorities.

Today the first shops were allowed to reopen in Larcomar.
